| Reason : **79.6% **2.5** SBC TOP PLAY Dominator** Looking at the statistics, the revenge factor and the poor recent play from Florida Atlantic, Troy is the obvious choice here and based on early reactions, the public thinks so as well. There are a lot of factors however not being into consideration as well as some of the aforementioned factors being taken too heavily. The Owls have dumped three straight games and because of that they come into this game as a home underdog which is not correct. The wrong team is favored and we will grab the free points.
As mentioned, Florida Atlantic has lost three in a row but those have all come on the road and two of those came against Big Ten teams. This is the first home game for the Owls in over a month and after that dreadful run, being back in Boca is a big edge. The home field advantage has not exactly been dominant as the Owls have gone 7-9 in their 16 home games since becoming a 1-A team but this game is certainly different. All of the road games have given Troy the 5th ranked schedule compared to 65th for Troy.
The recent offensive struggled for Florida Atlantic definitely has to do with the schedule but also because of a banged up offensive line. That changes this week however as center Nick Paris is back on the field for the first time and his presence is enormous. This also helps Brandon Jackson, who now gets to move back out to tackle, a place he much prefers to guard, where he was forced to go when Paris went down. This is a perfect timing for quarterback Rusty Smith, who clearly has not gotten the same protection.
There is also the revenge factor as Troy wants some payback from the loss suffered as home last season against the Owls which put Florida Atlantic into its first ever bowl game. Yes, revenge is in play here but it is on the road and I have stated many times that revenge on the road is not a strong an angle that should be played. While it is not a revenge game for the Owls, them not playing at home for over a month is a much better angle that needs to be looked at.
The Owls have been turnover prone recently and that actually plays into our favor based on a solid situation favoring them. Play on home teams with a turnover margin of -1 tpg or worse on the season, after two straight games with a turnover margin of -2 or worse. This situation is 39-10 ATS (79.6 percent) over the last five seasons with the average point differential being +9. ppg. Florida Atlantic is 7-2 ATS in its last nine games following a loss while Troy is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games following a loss. Play Florida Atlantic Owls 2.5 Units

Reason : It certainly won't take much for Troy to get up for this contest. Last year, all the Trojans needed to do to earn a spot in the New Orleans Bowl was defeat Florida Atlantic on their home turf. Thanks to four turnovers it was the Owls that strolled into Movie Gallery Stadium and pulled off the upset. That victory sent FAU bowling and NOT Troy. You know what they say about paybacks men.
This Trojans investment does come with solid support. Since October 25th, 1986, home dogs priced at +2 or more are a dismal 8-24-1 ATS provided they played three or more on foreign soil last and they are matched up against an opponent that enters off a SU and ATS loss. If our home pooch is facing a foe that carries a won/loss percentage of .500 or better, this situation dips to a woeful 3-13 ATS. Florida Atlantic fit this general play against angle and the tightener.
With a victory today, Coach Larry Blakeney's Trojans will hold a two game lead over each of the teams that shared the Sun Belt title with Troy the last two years. Rest assured, off back-to-back beatings at Ohio State and Oklahoma State and a little rest, the Trojan will be all business under the ESPN2 lights on Tuesday night. Take Troy. Thank you and best of luck, Tom Stryker. |
